In September 2006, Dole organized CSR grower forums in Ecuador and Costa Rica.

The objective was to stress the importance of Dole’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to Dole’s independent producers.  During the meetings the scope and content of Dole’s CSR programs and policies was clarified and the Company’s views were shared with external stakeholders.

Approximately 180 growers participated in the forum in Ecuador and 50 in Costa Rica.  Almost all of Dole’s independent growers in these two countries were present. The forum provided the opportunity to exchange views on CSR with industry representatives, European retailers, some local unions and other labor organizations as well as NGOs among others. The Ministers of Labor from Ecuador and Costa Rica also participated in the forums held in their respective countries, further highlighting the importance of these events.

Dole believes that continuous education is essential in the area of CSR. As such, the Company will continue to closely share examples of best CSR practices with our growers and suppliers.  Furthermore, Dole will continue associating external stakeholders, whose input is essential for the credibility of our CSR programs.
