Constructed in 1994 and located south of Limon, Costa Rica, the town of Bananito is a planned community designed and built for the benefit of its workers and their families by Dole Food Company.

Bananito helps meet the housing needs of workers at Dole’s largest banana farm in Costa Rica by providing affordable housing in a community with modern infrastructure and conveniences, including potable water, garbage collection, and a well-designed and maintained road system.

Bananito residents have access to education, recreational and commercial opportunities, including four schools, a shopping center, playgrounds, sport fields, and a healthcare clinic staffed with professional medical personnel. The schools offer basic education classes, home education, physical education, computer science and English. In addition, a government-run nursery in town provides child care for working mothers.
